Vice President, Income Tax
Position Summary
The Vice President, Income Tax is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for all aspects of the global income tax function. This includes domestic and international tax planning, compliance, reporting, transfer pricing, and application of ASC 740. The role partners closely with Finance, Treasury, Legal, FP&A, and Business Development teams and plays a key role in supporting mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate will serve as both a strategic advisor and operational leader, ensuring the tax function is efficient, compliant, and aligned with business objectives. Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Income Tax Accounting & Reporting
- Oversee preparation and review of the income tax provision, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of all close activities
- Manage quarterly tax reporting schedules in coordination with FP&A and Treasury
- Communicate tax results and insights to senior leadership and, when required, the Audit Committee
- Review income tax accounting and filings with external auditors
- Prepare all income tax disclosures for audited financial statements
- Execute monthly close processes, including account reconciliations and analyses
- Maintain and enhance internal controls; support Internal Audit testing and reviews
Income Tax Planning
- Develop and execute tax strategies to minimize cash taxes and effective tax rate
- Manage and optimize utilization of company tax attributes
- Identify and pursue federal, state, local, and international tax incentives
- Support tax planning for M&A, restructuring, and other strategic business initiatives
- Partner with Finance, Legal, and external advisors to implement tax strategies
- Stay current on tax law changes and emerging regulations (including Pillar II readiness)
Income Tax Compliance & Examinations
- Manage global tax compliance calendar across all jurisdictions
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments
- Oversee tax audits, examinations, and resolution of tax notices
- Ensure compliance with foreign withholding and reporting requirements
Transfer Pricing & Intercompany
- Oversee global transfer pricing strategy, documentation, and required analyses
- Manage quarterly transfer pricing journal entries and related reporting
- Partner with Treasury to manage intercompany funding and settlement of balances
- Respond to global transfer pricing inquiries and documentation requests
Leadership & Other Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop tax team members
- Manage and optimize relationships with co-sourced tax providers and external advisors
- Drive process improvements and legal entity rationalization initiatives
- Ensure effective collaboration across Finance, Legal, and other business functions
- Execute ad hoc strategic and operational tax projects
Required Qualifications
- BS in Accounting required; Master’s in Tax preferred
- Active CPA license required
- 18 years of progressive tax experience (public accounting corporate tax leadership)
- Prior ownership of a full income tax function (Director/VP/Head of Tax level)
- Deep expertise in:
- ASC 740 income tax accounting
- Domestic and international taxation
- Tax compliance and audit management
- Transfer pricing and intercompany transactions
- Proven experience preparing/reviewing tax provisions and financial statement disclosures
- Strong background working with external auditors and Big 4 firms
- Experience managing tax functions in a matrixed organization
- Hands-on leadership style with ability to both execute and strategize
- Experience with tax systems (e.g., OneSource) and strong MS Excel skills
Preferred Experience
- Background in retail and/or consumer products industries
- Experience building, transforming, or scaling a tax function
- Exposure to global tax planning, M&A, and legal entity structuring
- Familiarity with evolving global tax frameworks (e.g., Pillar II)
- Experience managing co-sourced or outsourced tax models
- Small team leadership experience in a complex organization
