Property Accounting Expert

About the Role
We are seeking a Property Accounting Expert to serve as the subject matter authority on multifamily accounting workflows and resident ledger operations.
In this role, you will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, and client-facing teams to ensure accounting integrity across features that impact resident ledgers, financial workflows, and property accounting operations. You’ll help translate complex real-world accounting processes into scalable product requirements and ensure accounting accuracy across platform functionality.
This is a highly cross-functional role ideal for someone with deep multifamily accounting expertise who enjoys solving operational challenges and influencing product development in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on Core Accounting Scenarios
  • Provide guidance on accounting treatment and operational workflows related to:
    • Rent and concessions
    • Deposits and refunds
    • Subsidies and HAP
    • Delinquencies
    • Utilities
    • Move-ins and move-outs
    • Month-end close processes
Translate Accounting Workflows into Product Requirements
  • Convert real-world accounting scenarios into clear business requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Evaluate and pressure-test new product features prior to release
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accounting workflows are accurately represented within the platform
Review Financial Calculations and Logic
  • Validate prorations, allocations, adjustments, and charge/credit calculations for accuracy and consistency
  • Ensure accounting outputs are explainable, auditable, and aligned with operational expectations
Lead Testing and Validation Efforts
  • Develop representative accounting test cases and scenarios
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) with client accounting teams
  • Confirm outputs reconcile properly and align with expected accounting treatment
Establish Standards and Best Practices
  • Define consistent terminology, event lifecycles, and workflow standards
  • Create concise documentation and reference materials for accounting and operational users
  • Capture recurring patterns, edge cases, and enterprise customer feedback to improve processes and scalability
What We’re Looking For
  • 5 years of experience in multifamily property accounting, controllership, or related accounting leadership roles
  • Strong understanding of:
    • General ledger and sub-ledger accounting
    • Resident ledger operations
    • Deposits and reconciliations
    • Month-end close processes
    • US GAAP principles
  • CPA or similar accounting credential preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with accounting, operations, leasing, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and process documentation
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Willingness to work onsite 4–5 days per week
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within a software, SaaS, or technology-driven environment
  • Familiarity with multifamily property management and accounting systems
  • Understanding of accounting system integrations and data workflows
  • Interest in AI, automation, and technology-driven accounting operations
