We are partnering with a well-established organization in the Red Bank, NJ area seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Accountant to join their accounting team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple entities, including nonprofit and for-profit organizations, while playing a key role in payroll tax compliance, financial reporting, treasury management, and month-end close activities.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, payroll tax expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll & Tax Compliance
- Prepare and process daily payroll tax filings and payments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Perform monthly reconciliations with a strong focus on payroll, benefits, and tax-related accounts
- Support payroll accounting activities and related reporting requirements
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage full-cycle accounting and financial reporting across multiple entities
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statements
- Perform month-end close activities and variance analysis
- Handle intercompany transactions and monthly billings
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
Treasury & Cash Management
- Maintain banking relationships and oversee treasury operations
- Manage ACH activity, cash flow, and daily cash management processes
- Monitor and maintain accurate trust fund and investment records
- Oversee daily interest accruals and support jumbo CD investment activities
Audit, Controls & Planning
- Coordinate with external auditors, banking partners, insurance providers, and internal stakeholders
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Strengthen internal controls, payment authorization procedures, and fraud prevention initiatives
- Support process improvements and operational efficiencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Strong experience with payroll tax filings, payments, and reconciliations
- Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Strong understanding of treasury management and cash flow processes
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems
