Job Summary

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving IT modernization and automation initiatives, including the upgrade, installation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft systems using automation technologies including Kubernetes and Azure automation. This role involves collaborating closely with our IT team and managed Security Operations Center (SOC), contributing to the development and delivery of user training programs, and ensuring a robust system infrastructure across the organization and in partnership with our parent company.

What You Will Bring

  • Strong understanding of and hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Azure, and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of IT modernization practices and cloud-based environments.
  • Understanding of and hands-on experience with security tools such as Proofpoint, Abnormal Security, Umbrella, and Sentinel One.
  • Knowledge of IT frameworks including disaster recovery, incident management, and change management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively across teams and with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with cloud security principles and experience securing cloud-based environments (e.g. Azure,).
  • Strong Windows knowledge, analytical problem-solving skills.

Essential Duties/Accountabilities
  • Strong understanding of and hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Azure, and automation tools.
  • Knowledge of IT modernization practices and cloud-based environments.
  • Conduct regular system audits to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement and implement remediation strategies.
  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to enhance the company's security infrastructure and incident response capabilities.
  • Provide expert guidance and support during the investigation and resolution of system issues and security breaches.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest IT and security trends and technologies.
  • Generate regular reports for IT management on the status of the IT environment.
  • Collaborate with the team on day-to-day operations including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft systems.
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
  • Work closely with team members to resolve technical issues, as well as perform routine tasks such as monitoring, server management, active directory administration, software installation, imaging, etc.
  • Perform configuration and management in cloud environments and on-premise environments.
  • Assist with forecasting and managing server technologies and growth, coordinate and manage client/server disaster recovery planning.
  • Assist with patch and security changes per policy and pro-actively monitor the environment for patch compliance.
  • Administer and respond to alerts from mail security systems and EDR systems.
  • Maintain documentation for configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to the infrastructure and software.
  • Troubleshoot Windows networks, storage, application, and hyper-converged platforms.
  • Experience working with an external managed service provider.
  • Participate in technical planning meetings.
  • Coordinate incoming/existing tasks as required to unify resources for the specified task/operation.

Education and Experience
  • While a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field is appreciated, we place a high value on practical, hands-on experience. Candidates with significant industry experience who demonstrate a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and a proven track record in security tool administration will be considered even if they do not hold a formal degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT security administration, and Windows System Administration, or related roles.
  • Relevant security certifications (e.g., Kubernetes, Azure, CISSP, CISM) are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of O365 platform.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Stack HCI and/or Hyper-V Systems.
  • Understanding of Privilege Access Management and administration.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for security systems, procedures, and incident response plans.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks and analyze data.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements relevant to cybersecurity, such as GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOX.
  • Strong crisis management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and staying ahead of the curve.
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate one.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to promote a culture of best practices throughout the organization.
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and training to keep skills current and relevant.
