Job Title: Interim Assistant Controller
Job Overview:
The Interim Assistant Controller will play a critical role in overseeing and managing the company’s accounting activities during a temporary period. This role will focus on ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with tax regulations, and effective management of accounting processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting and finance, with a strong focus on tax compliance and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Use Tax Management:
- Ensure accurate calculation, reporting, and remittance of sales and use tax in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Review and verify sales tax on invoices to ensure correct application and compliance with tax laws.
- Prepare for and assist with sales and use tax audits, addressing and resolving any issues or discrepancies.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of sales and use tax returns.

Financial Close and Reporting:
- Record and review journal entries, allocations, and financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, including inventory adjustments and account reconciliations.
- Prepare related party invoices and manage intercompany reconciliations.
- Assist with banking functions, such as reconciling cash and clearing accounts.
- Prepare and reconcile various schedules to the Trial Balance, including accrued expenses, legal, payroll, and IT accounts.

Tax Compliance and Coordination:
- Assist with income tax return preparation and coordination, gathering necessary documentation and information.
- Provide support for annual filing and compliance-related questions.

Team Management and Support:
- Assist in managing the Accounts Payable team, ensuring efficient processing and resolution of issues.
- Support the accounting department with various tasks, inquiries, and ad hoc reporting.
- Collaborate closely with the Controller to track departmental deliverables, open items, and ongoing projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification is highly preferred.
- At least 7 years of accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on tax compliance and financial reporting.
- Proven track record of managing and leading accounting teams.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various departments and external parties.

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
