Salary: $110,000-160,000 plus equity

Key Responsibilities:
This role joins an elite internal innovation team dedicated to designing, building, and launching next-generation enterprise software products. The mandate of this team is to advance operational tools from simple task automation to fully autonomous end-to-end execution, transforming how real estate operators manage portfolios and interact with residents.
As the Property Accounting Subject Matter Expert, you will serve as the internal authority on multifamily property accounting. You will bridge the gap between real-world financial operations and software design, ensuring that automated features integrate accurately with client accounting systems, resident ledgers, and general ledgers.
1. Core Accounting Guidance & Feature Validation
- In-House Domain Expertise: Guide the technical and product teams on complex accounting scenarios, including rent posting, concessions, security deposit/refund lifecycles, housing subsidies/HAP, delinquencies, utility billings, move-in/move-out reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Calculation Integrity: Review and validate prorations, allocations, adjustments, and charge/credit logic for 100% accuracy, compliance, and auditability.
2. Product Translation & Testing
- Workflow Translation: Turn real-world property accounting edge cases into clear product requirements, acceptance criteria, and user stories.
- UAT & Reconciliation: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) alongside enterprise client accountants, developing representative test cases to ensure financial output reconciles perfectly.
3. Standards, Documentation & Client Success
- Terminology & Lifecycles: Define consistent event lifecycles, standardized financial terms, and concise reference guides for client controllers and onsite property teams.
- Playbooks & Best Practices: Capture enterprise customer patterns, edge cases, and compliance requirements to build durable internal playbooks and standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of hands-on experience in multifamily property accounting or controllership at a property management company (PMC), real estate owner-operator, or REIT.
- End-to-end expertise across General Ledger (GL), sub-ledgers, resident ledgers, security deposits, and property-level close processes grounded in U.S. GAAP.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; comfortable speaking directly with client CFOs, controllers, onsite property managers, and software engineers.
- Willingness to work in-person at the New York office 4–5 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working within a SaaS, PropTech, or software product development environment.
- Deep familiarity with top-tier property management systems (PMS) and data handoffs (e.g., Yardi, RealPage, Entrata, MRI).
- Interest in or exposure to AI, automation, or digital transformation within accounting/finance workflows.
