Senior Accountant
Location: Hybrid, Durham, NC (2-3 days on-site per week)
A growing renewable energy company is seeking a Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting to join its team. This role focuses on ensuring that all accounting policies and procedures align with US GAAP, researching relevant guidance, and supporting the month-end and quarter-end close processes. The company is a leader in utility-scale renewable energy projects, with significant assets under management and a commitment to sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial reporting to management, the board, investors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Lead the monthly reporting process for the primary shareholder (investment fund).
- Develop, manage, and update accounting policies and design, test, and implement internal controls.
- Research and interpret accounting guidance for new or unique accounting situations.
- Optimize existing accounting policies to create efficiencies, reducing month-end and quarter-end close timelines.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and make related adjustments as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Asset Management and FP&A teams on financial reporting, including actuals to budget analysis and narrative explanation of general ledger activity.
- Prepare technical accounting memos to document the treatment of relevant transactions, particularly those common to the renewable energy industry (e.g., tax equity investments, PPAs, EPC agreements).
- Ensure consistent application of US GAAP to all accounting records.
- Prepare ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed under tight deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Sage Intacct and FloQast is a plus.
- Experience with accounting system implementations is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and effective in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
- 5-7 years of accounting experience.
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP.
- Familiarity with renewable energy financing structures (e.g., tax equity) is a plus.
