Position Summary:
The Medical Biller is responsible for compiling and submitting accurate claims to insurance companies and ensuring that healthcare providers are paid for services rendered. This role includes reviewing patient bills for accuracy, following up on claim statuses, appealing denied claims, and communicating with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
Key Responsibilities:

Claims Processing:
- Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers.
- Ensure accurate and timely claim submission by verifying information such as patient demographics, insurance coverage, and service codes.
- Resolve any discrepancies and correct errors before submitting claims.

Insurance Verification and Authorization:
- Verify patients' insurance coverage and ensure pre-authorization for services as needed.
- Communicate with insurance companies and patients regarding coverage limits and out-of-pocket expenses.

Accounts Receivable Management:
- Follow up on outstanding claims, identifying reasons for denials or delays.
- Resubmit denied claims with necessary corrections or additional documentation.
- Process patient payments and coordinate payment plans as required.

Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain up-to-date records of all patient accounts, including payments received, outstanding balances, and claim statuses.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements in handling patient information.

Communication and Customer Service:
- Act as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to resolve billing inquiries.
- Provide patients with clear, concise information about their bills, including itemized charges and payment options.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred.
- Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, CPB) is a plus.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or healthcare administration.
- Strong understanding of insurance claim processes, including Medicare and Medicaid billing.
- Proficiency with billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems; knowledge of [specific software] is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interaction.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and HIPAA compliance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Occasionally may be required to lift files or other materials weighing up to 10 pounds
