Vaco is working with a dynamic and fast-growing company located in Torrance who is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join their finance team. This is a contract-to-hire position, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent role based on performance. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with all applicable payroll regulations.

Position Overview:
The Payroll Manager will lead the payroll function, overseeing a team responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll best practices, labor laws, and tax regulations. The Payroll Manager will be an integral part of the finance team and will collaborate closely with HR, finance, and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise the payroll team to ensure the accurate and timely processing of weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payroll for employees across multiple locations.
  • Oversee payroll processing, including salary, hourly, bonus, and commission-based pay.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Review and verify employee timecards, deductions, and benefits enrollment to ensure accuracy.
  • Process and ensure timely submission of payroll taxes, filings, and other required reports (e.g., W-2, 1099, etc.).
  • Handle payroll-related inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and provide support to employees regarding pay issues.
  • Lead and participate in payroll audits and ensure all payroll records are properly maintained and archived.
  • Ensure proper implementation and maintenance of payroll policies and procedures to meet company standards and legal requirements.
  • Work closely with the HR and benefits teams to ensure proper deductions, benefits, and other payroll-related changes are correctly implemented.
  • Manage year-end payroll processes, including the preparation and filing of annual reports.
  • Assist with the setup and configuration of payroll systems (if applicable).
  • Continuously evaluate payroll systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll processing, with at least 2 years in a payroll management or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with payroll software and systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, or similar platforms).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive payroll data.
  • Experience in managing payroll for a mid- to large-sized company, especially in a multi-state or multi-location environment, is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Pay: $45-50/hr

  • the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
