Position Overview
The Application Architect is tasked with designing and shaping the architecture of applications, ensuring alignment with the organization's Enterprise Architecture guidelines and best practices. This role involves creating application models and services that integrate seamlessly within the overall IT ecosystem and identifying the necessary tools and technologies to meet business requirements.
Additionally, the Application Architect is responsible for determining the types of software components, their organization, and how they will interact to deliver the required user services. The role also involves contributing to the creation of data models and elements, ensuring they are detailed and practical to support business processes efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for a variety of enterprise applications, guiding solution design and development to enhance the value delivered by the technology infrastructure, either by improving operational efficiency or reducing technology-related costs.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of architectural standards for all application services and components.
- Simplify the IT environment by promoting reuse and minimizing redundancies in application and technology designs.
- Support the development, adoption, and governance of Enterprise Architecture principles across the IT landscape, specifically utilizing TOGAF methodologies.
- Provide critical analysis for feasibility studies, system design documentation, UML models, and business requirement documents.
- Ensure that application architectures remain adaptable and meet business requirements by maintaining a strong understanding of business strategies and infrastructure capabilities.
- Assess and review architectural compliance (including application, data, infrastructure, and business solutions) for various projects before, during, and after implementation.
- Lead assessments of application performance to identify areas for optimization.
- Evaluate emerging technologies that could impact the business or technology environment, or result in potential cost savings for the organization.
- Offer innovative solutions, alternatives, and recommendations to business leaders for application modifications and improvements.
Key Qualifications
- A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience and qualifications.
- Knowledge of the life insurance industry and financial services (e.g., Policy Administration, New Business/Underwriting, Claims, Billing, Compensation) is a plus.
- Ability to design high-quality application architectures that meet stakeholder needs while adhering to enterprise architectural standards and industry best practices.
- Hands-on experience applying TOGAF and/or other enterprise architecture frameworks within an organization.
- Expertise in application design patterns and development methodologies.
- Proficiency in .NET and Java technologies.
- Strong background in service-oriented architectures (SOA), including ESB, service registries, SOAP, XML, web services, BPEL, integration design patterns, and governance.
- Solid understanding of web technologies, including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, and mainframe systems.
- Extensive knowledge of software development methodologies such as RUP, Agile, Extreme Programming, SDLC, and Waterfall.
- Familiarity with IT security, confidentiality, and privacy regulations and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both technical and business-oriented.
- Strong capability to link technology solutions with business problems and vice versa.
- Leadership ability to inspire and drive others through conviction and vision, influencing through ideas rather than mandate.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to facilitate technical reviews and design sessions.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective time-management abilities, with a proven track record of thriving under changing conditions and tight deadlines.
