Location: New York, NY (3 days onsite per week)
Compensation: $85,000 annually Benefits

About the Opportunity
We are conducting a confidential search for a Grant Accountant to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization in New York City. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to apply their expertise to managing diverse grant funding sources across government and private foundations.
Reporting to the Director of Budgets and Grants Management, the Grant Accountant will play a key role in ensuring financial compliance, accurate reporting, and strong cross-departmental collaboration.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain a portfolio of grants and review financial reports/invoices to ensure timely, accurate submissions.

Review and code invoices within accounts payable for compliance with funding requirements.

Prepare monthly journal entries to accrue grant revenue, expenses, and indirect allocations.

Collaborate with Program, Legal, and Development teams on grant contracts, reporting requirements, and compliance checklists.

Ensure financial compliance with government and private funding requirements.

Support the Director of Budgets and Grants Management in preparing the annual budget, projections, and ad hoc requests.

Assist with funder desk audits and the annual audit (Single Audit, Subpart F of the OMB Uniform Guidance).

Analyze actual revenue and expenses versus budget to support financial oversight.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with grant or nonprofit financial management.

Knowledge of federal, state, and foundation grant requirements and reporting standards.

Strong general ledger and journal entry experience.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.

Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments.
