Our client is a retail company. They are looking for a Director of Finance who will be responsible for driving performance across the organization and providing financial leadership that supports its associates, leadership team, and ultimately, its customers.
As a designated accounting professional, this position brings strong expertise in accounting and financial reporting standards, as well as proven experience in performance measurement and analysis. This position also provides leadership to help guide strategies, ensuring the Company continues to deliver on its promise to Canadians while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and growth.

About the Opportunity
Consolidation and External Financial Reporting
-
Responsible for all quarterly and annual disclosure documents, including consolidated financial statements, MD&A, and AIF, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements (IFRS, CSA).

Lead quarterly and annual public company filings including SEDAR and SEDI.

Lead the creation of board and audit-level presentation materials.

Research new accounting standards/changes, make recommendations on accounting policy changes and/or revised disclosures, and ensure that disclosures in the financial statements follow IFRS.
Divisional Accounting and Financial Reporting

Direct and manage the day-to-day functions of the operational finance area, including divisional accounting and monthly reporting for the company’s division.

Oversee monthly close, audit requirements and other activities in the accounting cycle, including dissemination of store level P&Ls to Area Supervisors.

Oversee corporate accounting processes, reviewing and approving journal entries across store operations, merchandising, advertising, and franchise functions.

Manage real estate accounting including rent rolls, utility bills, CAM and property tax reconciliations, as well as intercompany billings for our owned shared properties.

Oversee accounts payable, customer accounting, payroll accounting, and daily cash management.

Review and sign-off on all commodity tax returns (HST/GST, QST, Sales Tax).

Other government reporting including Blue Box Compliance and surveys by Statistics Canada as they pertain to the company’s Canada business divisions.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement

Lead, develop, and coach a team of finance and accounting professionals, building engagement and driving strong performance.

Identify opportunities to streamline processes through Oracle ERP and MMHF for detailed sales and inventory reporting.

Collaborate with external auditors for interim reviews and year-end audits.

Provide input on corporate accounting policies and ensure compliance across the business.

Support ad hoc requests, special projects, and strategic initiatives as they arise.
About You

CPA designation required.
-
10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, including leadership.

Demonstrated expertise in Canadian mid-cap public company external financial reporting.

Strong leadership skills with experience managing large and diverse teams.

Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Effective negotiator and communicator, able to adapt messaging to a wide range of stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and collaboratively, with strong attention to detail.

Proven track record of driving process improvements and delivering measurable business results.
Salary Range
$165,000 - $175,000/year
